IMPOSSIBLE FLOWERS

About the Project:
The exhibition Impossible Flowers approaches the image of the flower not as an object of observation, but as a form freed from the need to be recognisable. It is not concerned with reproducing nature, but with creating a visual language in which the flower ceases to represent a specific species and becomes a combination of colour, line and rhythm.

In this sense, the project relates to the artistic explorations of the early twentieth century, particularly Fauvist practices, in which colour and form are no longer subordinate to reality but begin to exist according to their own laws. Within the exhibition, the flower may be stylised, distorted or pushed towards abstraction while retaining its expressive power.

We are interested in works in which the flower is not copied, but reconstructed. What matters is not resemblance to reality, but the ability of the form to function independently and evoke a visual response without relying on recognisability.

  • Art form:
    Eligible media: painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, ceramics, and photography.
  • Complete the Google Form
    To participate, you must complete the Google Form.
    You must also complete a separate Word form for each artwork, including full information about the piece.
    The same Word form includes a section for a brief concept statement of 400–800 characters, as well as the artwork’s dimensions, technique, and price. Please write your texts exactly as you would like them to appear in the exhibition catalogue.
  • Participation fee: (link to detailed pricing information)
    Exhibition at a gallery in Valencia, installation and deinstallation, participation in the opening, professional photo and video documentation of the artworks in the exhibition space for portfolios and social media, publication in a library-registered catalogue, a personalised certificate, as well as promotion and press coverage in Las Provincias.

    PARTICIPATION FEES:

    • One artwork — €100
    One artwork up to 70 cm on its longest side. Suitable for painting, photography, drawing, or a small ceramic piece.

    • Two artworks — €170
    Two artworks up to 70 cm each. Suitable for a diptych, two independent works by the same artist, or a small visual dialogue within the exhibition.

    • Large format / ceramics — €220
    This package is suitable for three artworks up to 70 cm each, one large-format artwork measuring between 70 and 120 cm on its longest side, or a ceramic work or object requiring separate placement within the exhibition.

    • Series — €350
    A series of 4–6 works presented as a single artistic project. Suitable for painting, photography, drawing, or a series of ceramic works. This package is intended for artists who wish to present a cohesive artistic statement rather than a single individual work.

    ADDITIONAL PROFESSIONAL SERVICES:

    • Individual curatorial text — €80
    An original text about the participant’s artwork, series, or artistic practice, written by Dr Lisa Dakkar — Doctor of Fine Arts, artist, curator, and researcher. The text will be approximately one A4 page in length and may be used for the artist’s portfolio, website, social media, applications, residencies, and professional presentations.

    • Portfolio review and professional development consultation — €80 per hour
    An individual online consultation covering the artist’s portfolio, presentation of works, visual coherence, texts, strategies for applying to open calls, exhibitions and residencies, and further professional development.

    IMPORTANT:
    The size of an artwork is determined by its largest measurement: for painting, photography, and drawing, this is the longest side; for ceramics, it is the height, width, or diameter, whichever is greatest.

Project Programme:
Application Submission
Applications and artwork portfolios will be accepted until 25 October 2026, inclusive.
Shortlist Announcement
The results will be announced on 29 November 2026.
Artwork Delivery
If you are based in another city or country, please contact Lisa Dakkar via Telegram to discuss delivery to Valencia. The artworks must arrive by 1 November.
Photographic works may be printed and framed in Valencia.

Artists based in Valencia or nearby may deliver their artworks directly to the gallery on 4 November.
Participation Fee
Payment must be made between 1 and 4 November.

Payments in euros can be made via Bizum, PayPal, or Revolut..
Exhibition
The exhibition will be installed on 4 November.
The opening will take place on 5 November at 7:00 p.m.
The exhibition will be dismantled on the evening of 15 November.

Final Stage
Certificates will be presented and artworks returned between 16 and 22 November.
Catalogue Production
Following the exhibition, we allow three to five months for the thoughtful preparation and production of the catalogue.

    In April 2026, I took part in the exhibition Territory: Spain in Valencia. The theme was chosen deliberately, as the project reflected how artists from different countries perceive and interpret Spain through their creative work.
    I was delighted to accept the invitation to participate. The subject felt very close to me, and I found it particularly interesting to express my own perception and understanding of the country through art.
    I would like to express my gratitude to the exhibition’s organiser and curator, Lisa Dakkar. Lisa is a highly qualified art professional who defended her doctoral dissertation at the university in Valencia and works as an expert and lecturer.
    The exhibition venue was very well chosen: the space was spacious and provided easy access to all the artworks. Everything was organised in a concise, contemporary, and aesthetically refined way. Lisa personally supervised the installation, welcomed the guests, and conducted the guided tour. Visitors explored the works with great interest and actively engaged with one another. Lisa explained the exhibition theme and selection criteria with great clarity. Throughout the entire process, she provided tactful and supportive guidance, from preparing and shipping the artworks to receiving the delivery, installing the works in the gallery, and presenting each participating artist. Every detail was carefully considered.
    The exhibition was covered by the local press, and professional photo and video documentation was produced. The opening attracted a large number of guests, and the reception and visitors’ interest in the exhibition were clearly reflected in the photographs and videos. I was especially pleased that my painting The Power of Nature was sold during the exhibition, with payment made on the same day.
    Following the exhibition, a competition was held with a professional jury, and receiving their feedback was particularly valuable. A publication was also designed and released, which is available for purchase on Amazon. Both its quality and content are of a very high standard.
    Thank you for this wonderful experience. I am very happy to have taken part in such an excellent project and would be delighted to continue our collaboration.
